 CAUSE FOR ACTION

The world is not on target to curb global warming

>20% of global emissions are derived from material production. The 1.5℃ climate target can not be met without a paradigm shift in how we view material – fundamentally changing material use and production.

Tires IS a massive unsolved waste problem

Over 33 Million tons of tires reach end-of-life each year – almost all are downgraded to low-value uses, and less than 1% goes back into new tires

  • 41% Landfilled or unknown

  • 15% Incineration

  • 27% Other recovery: e.g., civil engineering purposes, cement kilns, electric-arc furnaces

  • 16% crumb

  • <1% Pyrolysis

More action is needed on all fronts

All major OEMs have set ambitious sustainability targets.

The largest tire manufacturers have committed to using 40% circular materials by 2030.

But there is a huge supply/demand gap vs. plan for sustainable tire materials by 2030. <10% of the material required to meet stated goals is available today.

The tire industry must transition from a linear to a circular industry

The global tire market, ~280 BnUSD and growing at >4% CAGR (2023-30), has a huge worldwide waste and CO2 problem – less than 1% of tires are circular: We will not meet the climate challenge without transitioning from a linear to a circular economy.
